🌍 About Abia Community Manchester (ACM)

Who We Are

Abia Community Manchester (ACM) is a registered non-profit organization supporting families of Igbo, Nigerian, and African heritage across Greater Manchester. Founded over five years ago, ACM has grown into a vibrant community of families dedicated to preserving culture, empowering individuals, and promoting inclusion. We provide a platform where members can connect, learn, and thrive — blending cultural pride with social and economic integration into British society.

What We Do

We achieve our mission through a blend of cultural, educational, and social programs, including:

  • 🎭 Cultural Preservation
Promoting Igbo and African arts, language, fashion, and music through community events and creative workshops.

  • 👨‍👩‍👧 Family & Women’s Support
Providing wellbeing sessions, parenting support, and financial literacy training to strengthen families.

  • 👩🏾‍🎓 Youth Empowerment
Organizing excursions, mentorship, and skill-building activities to help young people grow in confidence and identity.

  • 💬 Health & Wellbeing
Hosting seminars and community health programs that address issues affecting Black and minority families — from mental health awareness to diabetes prevention.

  • 🌍 Integration & Belonging
Supporting newcomers through language support, career transition programs, and cultural orientation sessions.

Our Mission

To empower families and individuals of African heritage to live confident, healthy, and fulfilled lives by promoting cultural awareness, community support, and lifelong learning.

Our Vision

A connected and thriving African community in Greater Manchester, where cultural identity is celebrated, wellbeing is strengthened, and every individual has the opportunity to reach their full potential.

Our Future

Over the next three years, ACM aims to:

  • Expand outreach to more families across Manchester.
  • Launch a dedicated youth development program with regular excursions.
  • Secure a permanent community space for events and learning.
  • Deliver a comprehensive health and financial empowerment seminar series.
  • Strengthen funding and partnerships to ensure long-term sustainability.
